Session 1: Sept 24, 2019, 6:00pm-8:00pm
RACE MATTERS AT WORK
Race and racism affects how we understand ourselves, each other, the world and the work that we do. In this session, we will (1) define racism, (2) identify our individual relationships to power, and (3) explore the ways it plays out in our professional relationships.
Session 2: Oct 8, 2019, 6:00pm-8:00pm
CROSS-RACIAL TEAMS AT WORK
Practicing anti-racism is like dancing with a partner. Each person plays their role, moving in ways that mirror—but don’t necessarily mimic–those of their counterpart. In this facilitated dialogue, we’ll explore an anti-racist approach to our working relationships. Specifically, we’ll (1) name common challenges between cross-racial coworkers and (2) discuss strategies for intentionally interrupting racism at work.
Session 3: Oct 22, 2019, 6:00pm-8:00pm
MAKING THE CASE FOR RACIAL EQUITY AT WORK
You know that racial equity matters to your organization’s mission. You know what needs to change. You know who has the authority to make it happen. How do you persuade them to do the right thing? The ability to make a strong case for racial equity requires the ability to communicate goals, strategies, and outcomes to different audiences as well as assessing their motivations to act. In this session, we will (1) brainstorm the business case for racial equity initiatives (why and how it matters to your mission and bottom line), and (2) strategize when, where, and who should make the case.
